The Big Quiz House

Middle California Quiz teams have a BIG plan!

During Championships & Festival, guess where the Mid Cal Quiz team will be staying!
Drum roll please...

A Mansion !!!  (Lucky!!)

It is call The Big Quiz House. Almost all the Mid Cal quiz competitors and moms and whatever else they decided to bring will be staying there ! ("Sweetie! remember to pack your toothbrush and little sister!!")

Oh. You should see the kitchen. I am sure everyone will be hanging here.

They do have rules though. Bedtime at 9:45 and lights out at 10 pm. They have to wake up at 6 in the morning. I feel bad for them.

On Friday night, after the competition is over, "The Big Quiz House" is hosting a big dinner for all Mid Cal competitors and their families, regardless of discipline.

It is all not just partying. They have a bunch of quiz practice sessions planned. I'll have to tell you more about that later.

Meet the person who is making this all possible.. Darrah Garvin.

My first protest

Who knew coaching rules were so tough!

One of my teammate's coach didn't show up for Coach's Briefing. My team got 5 penalty points because that coach coaching my teammate was considered unauthorized assistance.

We did an inquiry. The chief HMJ advised that we "take it all the way up" because HM is not the place for enforcing it and there was no other place to account for it.

So, we chose to protest. We talked to the TD, Sheila. But she did not change the points we got.

We did not appeal it.

Moral of the story:  Make sure your coach shows up for briefing so that you don't  have to do this complicated process :) !

Show Jumping - Day 3

Happy Mother's Day!
Today is the last day of show jumping rally. One of my teammates fell off during her round. Her horse chipped in an extra stride and deer-hopped over the fence. She landed on the back rail of the oxer and Devyn fell off. I think that it is unfair that a fall counts for 38 points off. Emma's and Kendell's round was good. They both had one rail.

While I was watching their rounds, I saw one of the girls from my PonyClub (FoxChase). She was not in the Rally, but she was here to help her mom who was showing in the Hunter/Jumper show. She was not allowed in the Rally barn area to help us with the horses because that would be considered unauthorized assistance.

We came back and put away our horses. I went to get the hay and grain for the horses. I wasn't sure if I could carry all the hay from the trailer/feed room to the barn. Claire from Portola Valley offered to help (isn't that nice!)  with her wagon.  Here she is.

All the girls from Pacific Ridge had clean rounds. Their team got first place overall. Their overall score was negative. Thats because they got bonus/"good" points for their jump-offs. It is all confusing with the scoring system. Devyn explained positive point system. I think that would be a great idea. I hope they start that system soon. Here is the team with their moms & ribbons.

Our team got fifth place. Emma and Kendell got special award for helping other teams get ready.

I made a bouquet of flowers with DuctTape for my mom on Mother's Day. My mom thinks that is so PonyClub-like...

Someone else did the same in the rally. I hope her mom liked it...

Show Jumping - Day 2

It was a busy today. A hunter jumper show was going on at the same time as the rally. At the briefing, the chief HM judge said this: " Has anybody read Harry Potter? Okay, you guys are like Harry. Two other people that Harry knows is Hermione, who is really nice and helpful and kind of nerdy and likes to look up stuff in books. The other are the dementers who like to suck all the happiness out of you and leave you miserable. The HM judges are Hermione, NOT the Dementers."

Devyn had her ride first. Her formal went really well. The HM judges said that her horse had no dandruff at all! Her ride went well. Emma & Kendall had their rides in the afternoon. They both did well on their turnout inspections. Emma is HA, so her inspection was very strict. Emma and Kendall had clean rounds.

Ronda got me few a kid sized jumps. Everyone loved the jumps and were having lots of fun with them.

We left the rally grounds around 6:30pm

The 1st day at SJ Ralley

I met my team today at 1pm. Emma and Kendall were already there and they had set up the tack room.

Emma's horse's name is Lincoln ( show name:Lincoln's Copper Penny). He is a chestnut gelding. He is really nice but he sometimes takes advantage of the fact that he's 3 times the size of me.

Kendall's horse's name is Marcola. He is also a chestnut gelding. Marcola is really really friendly. He is also very calm.

Devyn came in a little later. Her horse's name is Grace ( show name: Gotchina Gal). She is a gray mare. I think she's thoroughbred andalusian cross. Grace has really sensitive mouth.

We stayed at the rally grounds pretty late.
